Media Arts: Music Video Production – Term 04

Self-reflection/evaluation:

Respond to each of the following dot points (using complete sentences or paragraphs). You should include as much detail as possible in your responses.

Teamwork during Pre-Production:

·      Describe any problems or difficulties your group encountered while developing your music video concept and deciding upon music;

·      It took quite a long time to decide

·      Explain whether your group effectively used the pre-production and planning templates prior to filming;

·      The shot list was used

·      Describe whether your group made effective use of their time in class during pre-production. (Did each group member; contribute; have set tasks at all times; know their role in the group etc.)

·      I didn’t.

·      List some steps your group could (or did) implement to improve in this area;

Teamwork during Production and Post-Production:

·      Discuss how your group used storyboards, shot-lists and a shooting schedule to assist during the filming making process;

·      They were used to ensure that we’ve got all the shots filmed correctly.

·      Did your group experience any organisational issues during filming, (i.e. members who were absent or did not contribute; finding suitable times to film; forgetting shot-lists, costumes; not booking equipment etc.) How did you manage or work around these difficulties?

·      I couldn’t film because I’m a boarder but most of our film needed to be filmed outside of school which was an inconvenience, also as there were so technical issues, they couldn’t film until the weekend before the project was due and I couldn’t edit because there wasn’t enough footage.

·      Describe any problems or difficulties you encountered during post-production and editing. These may include; technical difficulties, corrupt or missing files, group related issues. etc;

·      As we decided to use an go-pro, which was borrowed from someone, however, we didn’t have the charger so it couldn’t be used.

·      Did your group complete all shots as detailed in your planning?

·      No

·      Are you group satisfied with the final result?

·      Not really.

·      Would like to change any aspects of your music video or its original concept?

·      No.

·      If you could start the project again what would you do differently?

·      Be more organized in terms of planning and managing time and stuff.

·      Was it easier planning, filming and managing your time during this project than your first film? Why?

·      No.

·      Did your treatment accurately reflect your video or were the substantial differences between the concept and final product?

·      It did.

·      Consider whether you undertook adequate and detailed reflection to throughout your project. Have you provided enough evidence to support your work? (Does the work on your blog/journal represent 6 weeks’ worth of work).

MUSIC VIDEO CLIP TREATMENT

Type of clip (Highlight your choice/s) performance / narrative / collage Concept for clip Explain what narrative/images the clip will contain	Our clip is a narrative. The film is about someone getting bored with their life and wanting to break free and go on a series of fun adventures, this will entail shots of Beth at school really bored with her life doing things like writing in her book, shots of her walking, opening her books and so on and then it will skip to shots of Beth doing fun and entertaining things like running on the beach, eating an ice cream and videoing random people.
Message What message will your clip contain or what is its purpose? Style What look and feel will your clip have?	Have a positive attitude about life and don’t conform to society, don’t care about what people think about you, do what you want. Our clip will have a joyful and happy feeling to it as it starts with a depressing school life and then moves on to Beth enjoying her life and having fun adventures. We will show this through short clips and shots of exciting moments.
Technical codes Explain the ideas you have about camera work, transition devices, lighting, special effects, framing and composition	It will be a point of view shot so there will not be much camera work, as it will be strapped to Beth’s head. This will also be the same to the lighting, as we can’t control he weather. The special effects in our clip will be the lyrics we edit on top of our video.
Audio codes What is the song about and how do the lyrics relate to the visuals you have selected? Will you be adding an additional sound?	The song is about always looking on the positive side of life. The Lyrics to this video relate to our video as we have many shots of exciting things compare to depressing things. Our video will be simular to the original music video.
Pace What sort of pace does your song have and how will this be reflected and created in your clip? Written codes If you are using any written codes, what text will you use? What is its significance? Symbolic codes Will there be any symbols in your clip and what will they be? Will you repeat any images or use a motif? How will the symbolism you have used contribute to the message of your clip?	The song we have chosen is upbeat and uplifting, so it is fast paced. This will be reflected in our clip as we’ll be taking small shots and jump cutting the shots a lot. Our written codes will be the lyrics on top of the video, the significance is that they are the lyrics to the song. We are not using symbols because our video explains the song.
Key elements of mise-en-scene to be used Explain the settings needed and outline key props and costumes needed	There will be no use of props as it is not a set-up because Beth has the Go-Pro strapped to her head. But the props that will be used are the ones that Beth uses to make the music video. There will be no costumes whatsoever apart from wearing school uniform and her day clothes.
Appeal What things in your clip do you think will appeal to a youth audience?	As most of the youth must have something that stresses them and they might be depressed at some point, the song is able to encourage them to look at the positive side instead of focusing on what upsets them.
